Funding Priorities

Programs should address one or more of the priorities listed below, serve populations within the five-county Philadelphia metropolitan region and demonstrate success in serving the health needs of the vulnerable and underserved.

Improvement of access to health care by the underserved including the uninsured and underinsured

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Promote integrated/cross-disciplinary models of care.
  • Strengthen existing organizations that provide health care services and/or distribute health care and disease prevention information.

Meeting behavioral health needs

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Provide mental illness and substance abuse information, training and prevention and treatment services.
  • Promote the integration of behavioral health services with primary care.

Promotion of the health and well being of children and families

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Support particularly vulnerable populations, such as victims of abuse and violence, through primary care, legal, behavioral health, rapid response and intervention services, awareness training and education.
  • Address childhood obesity, prenatal care and parenting education.
  • Provide integrated/full access to dental care, including mobile dental units, community dental clinics and programs that prevent oral health problems.

Education, training and advocacy to improve health care outcomes

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Promote proper nutrition through education and increased access to healthy food and food distribution.
  • Train providers in identifying abuse and trauma, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Advocate for changes in policies and practices that will improve access to needed services.

Public health risk reduction

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Address public health issues such as communicable and infectious diseases and interpersonal violence.

Development of replicable, innovative approaches to health care delivery

In particular, programs designed to:

  • Produce a larger and better-trained health care workforce, and effective community-based health promotion.
